The ASEAN-EU Summit is taking place in Brussels, Belgium, Wednesday (14/12/2022). The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), attended in person. He said that his presence has a very important meaning.

Jokowi explained that trade relations between ASEAN and the European Union in 2021 would record a value of US$ 268.9 billion. This is the third largest after China and the United States.

In addition, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the European Union to ASEAN will also reach US$ 26 billion in 2021, which is the second largest after China.

In a press statement at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Tuesday (13/12/2022), Jokowi explained the urgency of his presence on the agenda.

“This is why we continue to strengthen, we continue to improve good relations between ASEAN and the European Union. Of course, Indonesia also wants our trade to increase between Indonesia and the European Union and investment from the European Union to Indonesia to increase,” he said.

Jokowi departed accompanied by First Lady Iriana Jokowi and several limited delegations. The plan is for the head of state to return soon after completing the series of events at the ASEAN-EU Summit.

“I and the delegation also only spent less than 24 hours in Belgium after that returning to our homeland,” he said.
