In an effort to the energy transition, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, gave instructions to the central and regional governments to use electric vehicles as official vehicles.
PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN also stated its readiness to support reliable electricity supply in response to the presidential instruction.
The mandate is contained in Presidential Instruction or Presidential Instruction No. 7 of 2022 concerning the Use of Battery Electric Motorized Vehicles (Battery Electric Vehicles) as Operational Service Vehicles and/or Individual Vehicles for Central Government Agencies and Regional Governments. The regulation was signed by President Jokowi on Tuesday (13/9/2022).
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said his party had prepared infrastructure and supporting services to answer the needs of electric vehicle users in the future.
“The President’s direction is to change from imported energy to domestic, from expensive energy too cheap, and energy with high carbon emissions to low carbon emission energy,” said Darmawan in a press release, Thursday (15/9/2022).
Earlier on Monday (12/9/2022), Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir issued a similar directive to accelerate the use of electric vehicles in all state-owned companies.
To carry out the directive, Darmawan ensures that the PLN electricity system is ready and reliable to meet the needs of electric vehicles. To make it easier to charge electric vehicles, PLN has also prepared home charging support services along with the installation of charging electric vehicles at customers’ homes.
PLN has collaborated with electric vehicle manufacturers and Brand Holder Sole Agents (ATPM) in providing home charging services to make it easier for electric vehicle owners.
“We also provide a charging discount of 30 percent starting from 22.00 WIB to 05.00 WIB. Because actually charging electric vehicles will be mostly done at home, just like we charge cellphones or laptops,” he said.
Electric vehicle users also don’t need to worry when traveling, because PLN has also presented a Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU), which until now (14/9/2022) has recorded 150 PLN SPKLU units in 117 locations spread across the country. Indonesia.
“As for the additional plan until the end of 2022, 110 SPKLU units will be built to support national road maps throughout Indonesia, including in supporting the activities of the G20 Summit in Bali,” he said.
In addition, PLN has also provided a General Electric Vehicle Battery Exchange Station (SPBKLU). Currently, there are 5 units installed in Jakarta, and 2 units in Surabaya. In 2022, it is planned that 70 SPBKLU units will be built with a total of about 300 batteries and locations spread across the islands of Java and Bali.
Darmawan added that to encourage the electric vehicle ecosystem, PLN continues to collaborate with various parties. As an effort to accelerate the availability of electric vehicle battery charging infrastructure, PLN also opens opportunities for business entities to collaborate in partnerships to provide SPKLU.
In able to accelerate the penetration of electric vehicles in the market, Darmawan also said that PLN had collaborated with the State Bank Association (Himbara) related to provide affordable and easy financing for people who want to switch to electric vehicles.
PLN has also launched Electric Vehicle Digital Services (EVDS) which is integrated with PLN Mobile SuperApps to answer the needs of the community regarding electric vehicles.
