FIFA travels to Indonesia on Tuesday (18/10/2022) afternoon WIB. They were represented by President Gianni Infantino.

Infantino came to Indonesia to meet with the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

The meeting of the two important leaders was nothing but to discuss the transformation of Indonesian football after the Kanjuruhan tragedy. In his statement, Infantino said FIFA would stay in Indonesia to help implement national football reforms.

“I can guarantee President Jokowi and the Indonesian people that We are here for all of you, FIFA is here to stay,” Infantino was quoted as saying.

“FIFA is here to work with the government, the Asian football federation, and the Indonesian football federation to transform and reform football,” he added.

Gianni Infantino and President Jokowi met one-on-one for 30 minutes. Next, Infantino and Jokowi discussed national football with the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali, and the Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir for 1.5 hours.

The meeting discussed four important issues, namely stadium management, security management, match management, and supporters management.

“We agreed earlier that the transformation of Indonesian football will begin together with FIFA and they will have an office in Indonesia until everything goes well,” said Jokowi.

In addition, Jokowi said that they would invest in many things to develop football in Indonesia. This is a form of attention from the FIFA President to Indonesia.

“Earlier, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said that they wanted to invest a lot in Indonesia,” said Jokowi.

“The investment is related to stadiums, safety, supporters, and football schools in Indonesia. We should be grateful for this,” added Jokowi.

Investment cooperation between Indonesia and FIFA will be discussed in more detail at the next meeting. The next meeting between Jokowi and the Infantino may be held at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar or Bali, Indonesia.

“What investment will be discussed in detail later, maybe in Qatar, maybe in Bali, or in Qatar because I was specially invited,” said Jokowi.
