The hotel occupancy in Sidoarjo is reported to be 100%, while it is 90% in Surabaya. The fullness of hotels in the two cities of East Java is due to the 1st-century celebration of the world’s largest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).

Chairman of the East Java Association of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI), Dwi Cahyono said hotels in Sidoarjo and Surabaya were full during the 1st Century of NU. Visitors have booked from 6-7 February 2023.

In Surabaya, hotels with full occupancy are located in the southern area close to Sidoarjo, with an occupancy rate of up to 90 percent. Meanwhile, hotels in Surabaya have an overall occupancy of 65 percent.

The event had a very good impact on hotels, restaurants, and MSMEs in the two cities.

NU’s 1st Century commemoration took place at Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium. Several world religious and national figures and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) are scheduled to attend.

The event lasted 24 hours starting Tuesday (7/2) and was attended by NU members from all over Indonesia.

Crowds of people from all over Indonesia started to flock to Sidoarjo and Surabaya on Monday (6/2) evening.

On the other hand, Stretching from the MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, and Exhibition) industry besides benefiting Indonesian promoters, the hotel business has also been showered with fortune.

This is because spectators of events or music events or festivals who come from out of town or abroad will usually choose to stay, be it in hotels around the event arena or other accommodation facilities.

Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) DKI Jakarta Iwantono said, holding concerts or festival events will definitely boost occupancy.

Iwantono can ensure that hotel occupancy rates and traffic increase in line with the holding of both national and international events, especially for 3-star hotels and above.
