Indonesia has officially stepped into a new chapter of leadership with the inauguration of General (Ret.) Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the President and Vice President of the Republic for the 2024-2029 term. The historical event took place on Sunday, October 20, 2024, during a plenary session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the iconic Nusantara Building, located in Jakarta’s legislative complex.

This inauguration was grounded in the General Election Commission’s (KPU) official decree No. 504 of 2024, which declared the pair as the elected President and Vice President following the nation’s 2024 general election.

The session was formally opened by the Chairman of the MPR, Ahmad Muzani, setting the stage for the monumental swearing-in ceremony. Both Prabowo and Gibran proceeded to take their oaths of office, vowing to serve the country with utmost integrity and dedication.

“In the name of God, I swear to fulfill the duties of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to the best of my abilities, with fairness, and in full accordance with the Constitution. I will implement the laws and regulations faithfully and serve the nation with all my heart,” pledged Prabowo Subianto, with his solemn oath quoted by the Ministry of State Secretariat.

Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the newly appointed Vice President, followed in similar fashion, “In the name of God, I swear to fulfill the duties of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia to the best of my abilities, with fairness, and in full accordance with the Constitution. I will implement the laws and regulations faithfully and serve the nation with all my heart.”

Once the oaths were completed, the official documents confirming their positions were signed by both Prabowo and Gibran, as well as the leadership of the MPR. These inauguration papers were then handed over to the newly installed President and Vice President.

Prabowo Subianto, in his first remarks as President, expressed his gratitude to all international leaders and special representatives from various nations who were present.

“On behalf of the Indonesian people, I extend my deepest thanks for your attendance. Your presence is a great honor to us, especially at this moment of our constitutional sovereignty,” he stated during his speech, as recorded by the Presidential Secretariat (BPMI Setpres).

The inauguration of this new leadership brings with it renewed hopes for Indonesia’s future. Under Prabowo and Gibran’s leadership, the nation is expected to forge ahead, with a clear vision of progress in all sectors. The goal is to transform Indonesia into a prosperous and advanced nation, with 2045—its centennial year—being the target for becoming a “Golden Indonesia.”

This new leadership is seen as pivotal, with expectations running high for continued growth, both domestically and on the international stage. The task now lies in translating this optimism into action and development across all spheres of life in Indonesia.
