Twitter blue verification badge feature is now officially paid! Elon Musk, the new owner, immediately took new policies, one of which is to charge a fee of $7.99 or around Rp. 125 thousand a month for account owners who wanted to keep their blue ticks.
The price is included in the new level of Twitter Blue or the technology giant’s premium subscription service, as quoted from Tech Crunch, Monday (7/11/2022).
Tech Crunch reports that there is a notification within iOS about the price of Twitter Blue starting at US$7.99 per month. Rates will make the user add a blue verification badge that was previously free.
Another service that’s reportedly coming soon is that paying users see only “half of the ads” that non-paying users see. In addition, the ads viewed are twice as relevant. Another feature is being able to upload longer videos to Twitter.
But Tech Crunch notes it’s unclear how long the video will be. Meanwhile, Musk said he expects the current limit to be 42 minutes for 1080p video and expects it to be increased sometime this month.
In addition, it is also unclear with the presence of a paid blue tick whether the previously verified account will be lost if you do not pay Rp. 125 thousand.
Citing the notification, Tech Crunch noted that would not happen. But according to a report by The Verge, Twitter is considering removing the blue tick from those who don’t pay for a subscription within 90 days of the new plan launching.
But the launch seems to be a long way off. According to a tweet from Twitter product lead, Esther Crawford, the new package of the Twitter Blue service has yet to be launched.
He said users getting notifications was part of the live test.
Twitter also doesn’t want to remove the blue tick, which indicates a verified user, before the US election period ends.
Previously, After a long process and months of convoluted drama, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has officially completed the acquisition of Twitter Inc. worth US$44 billion or Rp683 billion.
Elon immediately reshuffled the ranks of the social media leadership. He removed the Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal; Head of Legal Vijaya Gadde, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, and Twitter general counsel Sean Edgett.
The completion of this acquisition closes the long story of the acquisition process which is full of drama. Elon Musk started accumulating Twitter shares in January. In March, he disclosed the acquisition plans and reached a price agreement with it.
However, Elon then unilaterally decided to cancel the acquisition. Elon Musk has accused Twitter of being dishonest about the number of bot users and fake accounts on the social media platform. This cancellation led to Twitter’s lawsuit against Elon.
