Penny in a working meeting with Commission IX of the DPR, Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (18/1/2022), said, “Covid booster vaccine that has been approved by BPOM. So on January 10 and 11, BPOM has released five types of vaccines for boosters,” he said

As a condition of receiving this third stage of the vaccine, the candidate must be over 18 years of age and have also been vaccinated for the second stage with a span of 6 months in advance.

Types of booster vaccines

The 5 types of vaccines permitted by BPOM as booster vaccines are Sinovac, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Zivifax.

Penny also explained the number of doses given for each type of vaccine. He also explains its use which is homologous or heterologous.

A homologous booster vaccine is the administration of the third dose of vaccine or booster vaccine based on the previously acquired primary vaccine brand platform.

Meanwhile, the heterologous booster vaccine is the administration of the third dose of vaccine with a different type of vaccine brand from the first and second doses of vaccine that have been given previously.

Penny explained, “First, Sinovac is a homologous booster with a one-dose regimen. Second, Pfizer vaccine for a homologous booster is full dose, as a heterologous booster for AstraZeneca primary vaccine and half-dose Sinovac regiment,”.

The explanation is as follows. The Sinovac vaccine is used for a single-dose homologous booster.

Second, the Pfizer vaccine was used for a single dose homologous booster and a half dose heterologous booster for the Sinovac and AstraZeneca primary vaccines.

Third, the AstraZeneca vaccine was used for a single dose of a homologous booster, a half dose of heterologous booster for Sinovac primary vaccine, and one dose for Pfizer primary vaccine.

Fourth, the Moderna vaccine is used for a homologous booster with the half-dose amount and half-dose heterologous booster for AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Janssen primary vaccines.

And fifthly, Zifivax vaccine was used as a heterologous booster for the primary vaccines of Sinovac and Sinopharm in a single dose.
