Bali Province has claimed the coveted title of being the top winner at the Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards 2023, a distinction presented by the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency. This prestigious accolade signifies a pivotal moment for the local government to reinvigorate their commitment, alongside all the key players in the development landscape.

The Indonesia’s SDGs Awards for 2023, held in Yogyakarta on Monday, November 6, 2023, marked the second year of this significant event. This year’s awards centered around the theme “Water, Energy, and Agriculture Towards Sustainable Food Security.”

Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa, articulated this occasion as a platform to reaffirm the commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through active participation and collaborative efforts from all quarters.

He emphasized this commitment by stating, “Through this year’s SDGs Annual Conference, we can reaffirm our commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the active participation and collaboration of all parties.”

The 2023 Roadmap crafted by the National SDGs Coordination Team revealed a striking achievement, with a remarkable 62% of the 224 SDGs indicators – that is, 138 indicators – having been successfully attained. Among these achievements, a noteworthy 14%, representing 31 indicators, demonstrated improving trends or were on the path to attainment.

The year 2022 witnessed substantial progress across all facets of SDGs development, with particular strength observed in the Environmental Development Pillar and the Legal and Governance Development Pillar. However, a special focus is required for the Social Development Pillar, which necessitates an acceleration of efforts to realize its goals.

Suharso underlined the significance of these awards as a catalyst for enhancing the motivation of all stakeholders and the broader public. He called for collective and concrete actions to advance SDGs targets and, in doing so, further national development aspirations.

His words were poignant, “I hope that the Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards will further enhance the motivation of all stakeholders and the public to work together tangibly and concretely towards the achievement of SDGs targets, which also implies the attainment of national development targets.”

In an inspiring turn of events, Bali Province secured the top position in Indonesia’s SDGs Action Awards 2023. The remarkable success of Bali was closely followed by the Special Region of Yogyakarta and West Java Province, receiving recognition as the second and third-best performers, respectively.

These accolades were graciously presented by Minister of National Development Planning/Head of the National Development Planning Agency, Suharso Monoarfa, as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Annual Conference 2023 held in Yogyakarta.

The Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency, the architect of SDGs implementation in Indonesia, seeks to extend and amplify the replication of exemplary practices at the regional level. This collective endeavor aspires to accelerate the realization of Sustainable Development Goals during the “Decade of Action,” heralding a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
