Amid anticipation for the Christmas and New Year holidays, domestic flight tickets in Indonesia are finally decreasing. This reduction marks a major relief for travelers who often face soaring fares during peak holiday seasons.

On popular routes like Denpasar to Jakarta, flight tickets have dropped significantly. Tickets that previously exceeded Rp 1 million are now available for around Rp 600,000. On Monday (16/12/2024), a quick search through an Online Travel Agent (OTA) revealed that TransNusa is offering tickets for as low as Rp 603,000.

Other airlines are also following the trend. According to DetikTravel, Lion Air has set its fare for the same route at Rp 682,000, while AirAsia Indonesia is pricing its tickets at Rp 692,000. Both are notable reductions compared to their earlier rates, which hovered above Rp 1 million.

This decline aligns with the government’s recent target of reducing domestic airfares by 10% during the Christmas and New Year period. The policy has not only succeeded in lowering prices but has also drawn praise and attention from President Prabowo Subianto.

“For the first time in years, we’ve managed to reduce flight ticket prices. Normally, ahead of holidays or the end of the year, prices would spike. This time, we’ve been able to bring them down a little to help our people,” Prabowo said on Tuesday (3/12/2024).

The president emphasized that the reduction has been implemented carefully to ensure airlines remain unaffected. “We’re vigilant to ensure this reduction does not harm the aviation industry,” he added.

The government’s proactive step provides much-needed relief for holiday travelers. With ticket prices now more affordable, more Indonesians can reunite with their families and enjoy the festive season without the burden of exorbitant fares.
