The governments of Indonesia and China have reportedly embarked on a joint endeavor to enhance the quality of their labor relations, recognizing the pivotal role they play in fostering increased investment for the betterment of their respective economies and the overall welfare of their societies.

To further this objective, the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) of Indonesia recently orchestrated a comprehensive benchmarking program, spanning a period from May 20th to 30th, 2022, across five prominent cities in China.

The initiative saw the active participation of esteemed representatives from various bureaucratic entities, regional labor departments, and prominent labor unions, all united in their shared commitment to facilitating constructive dialogue and fostering mutually beneficial collaboration.

Anwar Sanusi, the esteemed Secretary-General of the Ministry of Manpower and the distinguished leader of the Indonesian delegation, eloquently elucidated the government’s steadfast dedication to ensuring a harmonious equilibrium between the vested interests of business enterprises, aspiring for efficient capital investment, and the preservation and fulfillment of workers’ rights.

Stressing the paramount significance of cultivating an atmosphere of shared understanding and cooperation, Anwar passionately remarked, “We fervently encourage the cultivation of a shared comprehension of the intricate and nuanced intricacies surrounding labor-related matters.”

Central to the endeavor is an unwavering commitment to bolstering the quality and sustainability of labor relations. This multifaceted approach encompasses a spectrum of strategic endeavors, including the fortification of vocational education and training, ensuring strict compliance with occupational health and safety standards (K3), and the comprehensive implementation of robust social security measures for workers.

In addition to these measures, concerted efforts are being undertaken to augment the spectrum of gainful employment opportunities, both within and across national boundaries.

Anwar elaborated that both governments have unequivocally pledged to expedite the formulation of more technically focused deliberations to actualize the positive outcomes and transformative potential envisioned during the benchmarking program.

Integral to the overarching vision is the transfer of invaluable knowledge and essential skills to Indonesian workers engaged in prominent Chinese investment projects.

This exchange of expertise seeks to empower Indonesian labor forces, equipping them with the necessary tools and proficiencies to actively contribute to the sustainable development and self-reliance of their respective industries.

Anwar expressed his profound desire for Chinese companies operating within the Indonesian landscape to proactively engage in the comprehensive development and augmentation of vocational education programs.

By embracing the transformative power of internships, these companies can provide aspiring Indonesian workers with invaluable practical experience, ultimately paving the way for their professional integration and advancement. Outstanding interns, who demonstrate exceptional potential and aptitude, will be afforded the prospect of securing permanent employment within these esteemed organizations.

As the Indonesian government endeavors to facilitate the expeditious realization and operationalization of foreign investments, it remains committed to striking a delicate balance.

While foreign investors are encouraged to bring their advanced technological expertise and proficient workforce from their countries of origin, there exists an inherent understanding that the eventual transfer of knowledge and skills must transpire, thereby ensuring the seamless transition of these projects into the hands of capable and proficient Indonesian workers.

During the delegation’s visit to Beijing, the Indonesian representatives were cordially received by the esteemed Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China, Yu Jiadong.

This gracious reception further underscores the shared commitment and shared vision of both nations to forge ever-closer ties, founded on the principles of mutual respect, cooperation, and the pursuit of shared prosperity.
