Many Indonesians prefer to use rail transportation. Average passengers increase, especially on national holidays. PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI recorded the number of long-distance train passengers during the Eid al-Adha holiday, Friday (8/7/2022), to Sunday (10/7/2022). The number of passengers recorded an increase of 46 percent compared to June 2022.

KAI’s VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus said the number of passengers reached 398,260 people or an average of 132,753 people per day. Meanwhile, the average number of long-distance train passengers during June 2022 was 90,913 customers per day.

“The average number increased 46 percent from the volume in June 2022, in line with the increasing mobility of the people,” he said, Monday (11/7/2022).

During the Eid al-Adha holiday period, KAI operates an average of 229 long-distance train trips per day.

Customers’ favorite routes are Jakarta–Bandung pp, Jakarta–Yogyakarta pp, Jakarta–Surabaya pp, Jakarta–Semarang pp, Jakarta–Purwokerto pp, Jakarta–Kutoarjo pp, Jakarta–Cirebon pp, Surabaya–Yogyakarta pp, Surabaya–Semarang pp, Surabaya –Jember pp, and Surabaya– Madiun pp.

The volume of passengers for the three days is considered to show that the enthusiasm and interest of the community in using the train during the holiday period has begun to grow.

“People don’t need to worry about taking the train because KAI has always implemented health protocols for customers since the beginning of the pandemic,” he said.

Furthermore, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI explained the conditions for taking long-distance trains starting July 17, 2022, and the existence of vaccination facilities and Covid-19 test services.

“Following the Circular Letter of the Ministry of Transportation No. 72/2022, customers who have not received the third vaccination must show a negative result of the RT-PCR or Antigen Rapid Test which is still valid at the time of boarding,” said Joni, Monday (11/7/2022).

He said KAI had also provided vaccination facilities and Covid-19 test services (rapid antigen tests for Rp. 35,000) at various stations and KAI health clinics.
