Cycling around Jakarta just got easier. In a new move welcomed by cycling enthusiasts, Jabodebek LRT has now allowed non-folding bikes on board during weekends and public holidays. The policy has already seen strong interest, with many passengers using the opportunity to travel to Car Free Day (CFD) locations and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

The decision follows an earlier trial where only folding bikes were permitted on Jabodebek LRT, provided they met the maximum size of 100 x 40 x 30 cm. Non-folding bikes were initially restricted unless they were shorter than 90 cm. However, the new weekend regulation expands access for more cyclists.

“Specifically on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, we are now allowing non-folding bicycles to be brought onto Jabodebek LRT,” said Executive Vice President of Jabodebek LRT, Mochamad Punomosidi, in Bekasi on Monday (February 24, 2025).

Since the rule was introduced, many commuters have taken advantage of the opportunity. Most passengers bringing their bicycles are heading to CFD areas and TMII, locations popular for outdoor activities.

Punomosidi noted that TMII has implemented a green zone, making it an ideal destination for cyclists. “As we know, Taman Mini now enforces an environmentally friendly policy, meaning visitors must use designated vehicles that do not run on fossil fuels,” he explained.

Aside from this new bicycle-friendly policy, Jabodebek LRT has also launched women-only carriages as of December 23, 2024. The move is part of an ongoing commitment to improve safety and comfort for passengers.

With these initiatives, Jabodebek LRT continues to support sustainable mobility and provide a more inclusive transportation system for all.
