Rokan Block which is currently managed by Pertamina Hulu, Rokan (PHR) is expected to contribute significantly to the program by 1 million barrels in 2030.

Taslim Yunus, Secretary of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), said that the Rokan Block production is expected to reach 400 thousand barrels per day in 2030. The contribution of the Rokan Block is also considered to take an important role in achieving this long-term target.

According to Taslim, the production of the Rokan Block is expected to reach 400 thousand by the end of 2030. The range is equivalent to 40% of 1 million bopd.

SKK Migas hopes that the existing work program can be implemented. For this reason, Taslim ensures that his party is ready to carry out supervision to ensure the implementation of existing work programs to achieve these long-term targets.

Meanwhile, Pertamina is targeting a good drilling commitment of 161 wells by the end of 2021. Consisting of 84 wells for Pertamina’s drilling program and 77 wells for the Chevron program plan carried over by Pertamina Hulu Rokan.

On the other hand, Tutuka Ariadji, Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), said that the contribution of the Rokan Block in the 1 Million Barrel program is expected to be in the range of 25 to 32 percent. For this reason, the Rokan Block production is expected to be optimized through the potential of unconventional oil.

“We are waiting for PHR to be able to exploit unconventional oil in the Rokan Block and also with EOR to add more reserves,” said Tutuka.

As additional information, as of July 2021, the production of the Rokan Block was recorded at 160.5 thousand bpd. This amount is equivalent to 24% of national production. Meanwhile, natural gas production from the Rokan Block reached 41 million cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).
