Indonesia’s public mobility is gradually returning to pre-pandemic levels, marking a positive shift in the nation’s recovery efforts amidst the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The significant strides made in this regard are reflected in the soaring performance of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, which has garnered remarkable accolades in the aviation landscape.
According to the Airport Council International (ACI), Soekarno-Hatta Airport has secured the prestigious first position in the Southeast Asian region and an impressive third position in the broader Asia-Pacific region in the list of the world’s busiest airports.
The data compiled by ACI from a comprehensive list of 2,600 airports underscores the scale of success achieved by Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Throughout the period spanning January to December 2022, the airport’s passenger movement witnessed a staggering 39.60 million individuals traversing its terminals, a testament to the gradual return of normalcy in people’s lives.
Muhammad Awaluddin, the esteemed President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II, attributes the airport’s resounding success to the unwavering commitment and concerted efforts of all stakeholders. Acknowledging the challenges posed by the pandemic, Awaluddin emphasizes that the aviation sector has now embarked on a path of resurgence and revival.
During this pivotal period of recovery, PT Angkasa Pura II, along with all relevant stakeholders, have been resolutely focused on strengthening both domestic and international flight connectivity. This robust strategy has not only been instrumental in catalyzing economic growth but also in effectively managing the pandemic.
A crucial aspect of this concerted effort has been the collaboration among stakeholders, leading to the reactivation of previously dormant flight routes. These routes, which had been temporarily suspended during the height of the pandemic, are now operational again, enabling seamless travel for passengers.
Additionally, PT Angkasa Pura II has taken proactive measures to boost flight frequencies on existing routes and open up new pathways to cater to the burgeoning demand. This multifaceted approach has significantly contributed to Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s meteoric rise in its ranking as one of the busiest airports in the world.
“Through this collective endeavor, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has emerged as a premier aviation hub in ASEAN and secured its position as the third busiest airport in the Asia-Pacific region,” affirmed Awaluddin, in a statement released on Friday (July 21, 2023).
Wendo Asrul Rose, the illustrious Director of Operations at PT Angkasa Pura II, attributes the airport’s triumph to a meticulously planned and executed operational framework. He further emphasizes that the rapid growth of domestic flights over the preceding year has been a significant contributing factor to Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s soaring success.
Moreover, the seamless coordination and seamless execution of operational strategies by PT Angkasa Pura II, airlines, ground handling services, and other vital stakeholders have ensured the airport’s ability to meet the demands of the dynamic aviation landscape, further enhancing its reputation as a regional aviation powerhouse.
