The government through BUMN Minister Erick Thohir is currently rebuilding the tourism location in Sanur, Bali. This development concerns health tourism and other supports, including the hotel inherited from Indonesia’s first President, Soekarno, in the Special Economic Zone or SEZ of Sanur.

Erick Thohir emphasized that the development of the Sanur SEZ which integrates the health sector with tourism aims to provide inclusive health services, digital-based economic transformation, and a transition towards sustainable energy.

According to him, Bali has great potential to become a center for medical tourism in Southeast Asia so it has a broad impact on improving the economy of local communities.

“The Sanur Bali area was chosen not only for historical reasons and the legacy of our first President, Soekarno but also to reaffirm his initial ideas,” he said in his statement, Monday (16/1/2023).

“With this Health SEZ, we are taking advantage of the beauty of Bali to serve patients to get world-class health services. This is increasingly globalizing Sanur as an international health tourism,” added Erick.

This health facilities, in the form of international standard hospitals and clinics, are being built in an area of 41.26 hectares, in collaboration with the largest hospital in the United States, the Mayo Clinic.

Then revitalize the Bali Beach Hotel or Grand Inna Bali Beach (GIBB), convention center, ethnomedicinal botanic garden, and commercial center to accommodate MSMEs.

For the information, one of the things Erick is working on is the Bali Beach Hotel or GIBB. This is one of the legacies that was renovated in KEK Sanur, a hotel designed by Soekarno, which was built in 1963 and completed in 1966.

In the development of the Sanur SEZ which involves BUMN In Journey, Hotel Indonesia Natour (HIN), Nindya Karya, Indonesia Healthcare Corporation (IHC), and PP, the number of rooms in the hotel will be increased from 246 rooms to 274 rooms with a more modern building and room concept. modern.

This transformation of the Sanur tourist area is the second revitalization effort carried out by Erick Thohir on Sukarno’s legacy.

Previously, the Minister of BUMN also turned the Sarinah Trade Center, which was built by Bung Karno in 1962, into a place for collaboration for creative economy actors as well as a center for national MSMEs.

In order to realize Special Economic Zones (SEZs) that can provide added value to the mastery of technology and human resources, the Government continues to make efforts to transform SEZ development policies.

One of them is by developing a Health SEZ which is expected to attract the interest of many Indonesians to divert medical care from overseas to domestically.
