The government will soon implement the Multi-Lane Free Flow trial at the end of 2022. Later, drivers only need to use a smartphone to pay toll road fares without opening the window.

This policy will be applied to the Java to Bali toll roads for the initial implementation.

Hutama Karya has disclosed several toll roads which will be tested in the implementation of MLFF.

“In Hutama Karya, the Jakarta Outer Ring Road Section S JORR – S and Tanjung Priok Access toll sections are the first to implement this system,” said Director of Operations III Hutama Karya Koentjoro, in a statement quoted on Thursday (14/7/2022).

He explained that the implementation of this system has two stages, namely single lane free flow (SLFF) where the transaction system is non-touch on one line, and the other route is still using electronic money cards. After that, it also continues with the implementation of Multi-Lane Free Flow where all paths will use contactless transactions.

Previously, Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) Danang Parikesit stated that there were six toll roads in Java and Bali to be pilot projects for the implementation of MLFF. The plan for implementing this system trial will be by the end of 2022.

“Jagorawi, Bali Mandara, Inner City toll roads, a total of six sections,” said Danang, quoted Thursday (14/7/2022).

Danang explained that after all toll gates had been implemented by MLFF, there would be no more large or reduced toll gates. He gave an example as the Cinere-Serpong toll road which has now been simplified in its design, so it does not use a large building model for toll gates.

Previously, the initial plan for implementing Multi-Lane Free Flow was planned in December 2022, then proceed to stages on all toll roads in 2023.

So that later the driver is expected to spend ‘zero time’ to make toll payments, and there will no longer be queues.

Previously, innovations were carried out to improve maximum service for toll road drivers. The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) applies contactless transaction technology or Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF).

This innovation refers to the Toll Road 4.0 technology which is following the Transformation, Innovation, and Modernization (TIM) of Toll Roads in Indonesia. In the future, motorists as toll road users will no longer need to stop at toll gates, let alone queue for tapping electronic money cards when making payments.

Launching from the bpjt.pu.go.id page, it is explained that implementing the Multi-Lane Free Flow-based cashless toll transaction system on toll roads (MLFF system) will be carried out in stages. It will be introduced at the end of 2022, and fully implemented by the end of 2023. This was confirmed by the Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of PUPR, Danang Parikesit.

The use of contactless transaction technology or Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) has enormous benefits compared to e-toll. The benefit is that it can eliminate the queue time to zero (0) seconds.
