As an effort to speed up the process of widening the Ciujung bridge, the Tangerang-Merak Toll Manager, Astra, has again implemented contraflow from 17 May – to 30 June 2022.
The implementation of contraflow at this time is to continue the reconstruction work of the existing Merak bridge with the scope of replacing the bridge seat. Then, it will connect the new concrete bridge with the old concrete bridge up to the bridge floor asphalting and the expansion joints replacement.
For now, the progress of the Ciujung bridge construction has reached 94.92 percent.
“After the work has been completed, testing of the strength of the bridge will be carried out to ensure that the bridge meets applicable standards,” said Slamet Adriadi, Head of the Maintenance and Project Management Department of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, Slamet Adriadi, in a press release, Thursday (19/5/2022).
Furthermore, the contraflow scheme that will be carried out is to close two lanes on the old concrete bridge towards Merak and divert vehicles from one lane to the route to Jakarta and one lane to the new bridge to Merak.
Then, for vehicles going to Jakarta, two lanes are prepared on the side of the bridge towards Jakarta and contraflow will be carried out for approximately 600 meters from KM 56+700 to KM 57+300.
“We and the police have also coordinated to anticipate the possibility of long queues due to emergency conditions, by informing them of alternative routes that can be taken,” said Slamet.
It is known that PT Marga Mandalasakti (Astra Tangerang-Merak Toll Road) is widening the Ciujung Bridge, which is located at Kilometer 57 of the Tangerang-Merak Toll Road.
Technical and Operations Director of Astra Tangerang-Merak Toll Road, Rinaldi, said that his party had started the work on January 12, 2021. The widening of this bridge is also part of the 3rd Lane addition project for the Cikande segment to East Serang, the first phase starting from Kilometers 56+700 to Kilometers 57+150.
“The plan is that the widening of lane 3 will continue to East Serang, and later it will continue to East Cilegon which is targeted to be carried out until 2034,” he said in an official statement, Tuesday (9/3/2021).
For information, Contraflow is one of the traffic engineerings that is applied to prevent congestion during the homecoming flow.
Literally, contraflow means going against the flow. However, in practice, contraflow is a traffic control system that changes the direction of the vehicle’s speed in the opposite direction from the normal direction.
