Malaysian health authorities reported 871 new cases of Corona Covid-19 Virus on 18 October 2020, bringing the total nationally to 20,498 cases.
The number of new cases was confirmed as the highest record for daily Corona COVID-19 Virus infections in Malaysia.
Quoting from Channel News Asia, Monday (19/10/2020) Malaysia also reported that 7 people had died, bringing the total death of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia to 187.
Most of the new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia were local transmissions and five imported infections, all of them were in Selangor.
Meanwhile, Sabah recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases with 702 infections, with Selangor as many as 77 and 45 cases in Penang.
There were 10 new Covid-19 cases in Perak, while Johor, Kedah, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Sarawak and Terengganu each recorded only one digit of new infections.
Following the recent spike in Covid-19 cases, Malaysia has reportedly imposed a targeted lockdown for October 2020, with Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya under the Movement Control Order (MCO) policy until 27 October 2020.
According to the Malaysian Ministry of Health, 701 patients have recovered, bringing the total recovery from Covid-19 to 13,262.
There are currently 7,049 active cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia, with 86 of them being treated in the ICU including 28 patients with ventilator assistance.
