On November 19, 2021, it is predicted that there will be a partial lunar eclipse. This moment can only be seen in some areas in Indonesia. A lunar eclipse is an event where the sun’s light is blocked by the earth so that not all of it irradiate the moon.

Researcher at the Center for Space Science of the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Andi Pangerang said this partial lunar eclipse had a magnitude of 0.9785.

A partial lunar eclipse only has two durations. First, the penumbral duration lasts for 6 hours 5 minutes 8 seconds. Second, the partiality duration lasts for 3 hours 29 minutes 2 seconds.

The angular distance from the center of the Moon to the center of the Earth’s umbra is 1478 arcseconds (0.41 degrees). Moreover, the Moon’s angular width is 1770 arcseconds or 0.49 degrees.

The gamma parameter, linear distance from the center of the Moon to the center of the Earth’s umbra is 0.4552 Earth radii or about 2,900 kilometers.

Lunar eclipse observation areas in indonesia

Areas that can see this partial lunar eclipse include Papua, Maluku, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Bali, and most of eastern Java, eastern Bangka Belitung.

The observers in the west can only observe the phase of the penumbral eclipse from the time the moon rises until the eclipse ends. The area to the west includes western Java and Sumatra.

The lunar eclipse begins with the initial penumbral phase which occurs at 13.00 WIB / 14.00 WITA / 15.00 WIT.

Lunar eclipse through out the world

The entire eclipse process can be seen in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and eastern Russia.

The eclipse process at the time of the Moon rises can be observed in most of Asia and Australia.

The process of eclipses at sunset can be observed in most of western Europe, a small part of western Africa, and South America.
