The Covid-19 virus is said to be starting to weaken. As is known, the Covid-19 virus has mutated several times. This is what causes the virus to weaken. This was conveyed by Professor of Molecular Medicine, University of Indonesia, Amin Soebandrio.

According to Amin, with the mutation of the virus, few of the mutations can survive.

“I can say that although the virus continues to mutate, most of the mutations make the virus weaker. Only 4 to 5 percent of the mutations can make the virus fit,” Amin said, quoted from the BNPB Youtube channel, Monday (5/9/2022). ).

He explained that the viral mutations that survive are those that can adapt to environmental stressors, such as drugs or antibodies. It’s that small amount that needs to be dealt with right now. “The 4-5% we have to deal with,” he said.

Although there are still variants of the virus that have emerged, Amin hopes that it can reduce its ability to spread. “It is hoped that the longer a certain period, the lower the infectious ability and virulence,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Amin explained that as long as the virus can be prevented from finding a new host, it can minimize its potential to mutate.

Several vaccine-producing companies are also trying to adapt to the new variants. On the other hand, viruses can change over time.

“Several large vaccine companies are already trying to adapt their vaccines to new variants. But we must remember that the virus continues to mutate and can change,” said Amin.

On that occasion, Amin also reminded the public about the benefits of vaccination. This is done according to him to increase immunity in the body.

He explained that as long as you have immunity, the slightest thing can have a positive impact. That way people can avoid the potential for contracting disease and death.

“We hope that the population’s immunity can be higher and higher with vaccination, can build community immunity, can limit the movement of the virus,” said Amin.
