Getting to Know the Clubhouse App


The Clubhouse application grew in popularity after being used by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. A number of top figures and artists are also known to use the application which is considered ‘exclusive’ to chat with other users.

Founded in 2020, Clubhouse has quickly built a reputation as a place for people to meet, talk and share ideas. Clubhouses allow users to create and join ‘rooms’, places to chat with others on large conference calls.

There are no images, videos or even text in the Clubhouse app, only audio. Users can join and leave calls at any time, and turn any room into a rally hall.

Cited by Business Insider, Clubhouse is invitation-only, meaning that anyone who wants to join must be “brought” by someone who already has an account.

People who are not yet able to join can still download the app and put their name on the waiting list, although there is no guarantee that they will get an account that way. Additionally, Clubhouse is currently only available for iPhone users.

Clubhouse CEO, Paul Davidson, said that Clubhouse will be open to everyone, including Android users. Currently, any iPhone user of the Clubhouse app who succeeds in accepting an invite is only given two more invitations, which they can then give to someone else.

The clubhouse has a simple look. The user will be presented with a list of rooms, as well as a list showing who is in each room. Each user can join a room by tapping on it or create their own room.

Today, most Clubhouse rooms have a TED Talk-like atmosphere, where one user talks and everyone listens. However, other users can join the conversation if the moderator deems appropriate.

Aljazeera reported that the Clubhouse application is like an ongoing podcast because it is possible for listeners to participate.

Each user can initiate or listen to conversations in the digital ‘room’, from chats of a famous person to chats in small groups. Clubhouse’s popularity made Facebook plan to build its own version.

The Clubhouse application develops with the FOMO concept, aka afraid of being left behind. So, users who are not online when the conversation occurs will miss the conversation that is happening.

Based on the data, Clubhouse has been used by about two million people every week in recent weeks. The room capacity at the Clubhouse is currently still limited to 5,000 people.

Currently, Clubhouse is worth US $ 1 billion or around or around Rp. 13.9 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 13,900). Clubhouse has also received funding from 180 investors.
