The government plans to conduct a road test of vehicles using 40% palm oil (B40) biodiesel as fuel in July 2022. This was confirmed by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM).

Director-General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana said the B40 road test process will start from July to December. The distance traveled for the B40 trail is 50,000 km.

Dadan ensured that the need for Crude Palm Oil (CPO) for biodiesel production so far is still safe and undisturbed. This is because the domestic biodiesel production capacity reaches 17 million kilo liters (kl).

“In terms of production, we already have 17 million KL in terms of sufficient capacity for the B40 program,” he said.

Previously, Dadan noted that the absorption realization from the Mandatory B30 program, which is a mixture of 30% biodiesel and 70% diesel fuel, until March had reached 2.5 million kilo liters (kl). This absorption has reached at least 24.63% of this year’s allocation which is set at 10.15 million kl.

The Director-General of EBTKE at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana, said that the B30 program continues to run smoothly. Even the absorption in the first quarter of this year almost reached a quarter of this year’s total allocation.

“Until March 2.5 million kl per quarter, so a quarter of it fits our target, we are 10.15 now it’s 2.5 kl,” said Dadan when met in Jakarta, Tuesday night (19/4/2022).

As is known, this year the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has set the allocation for domestic biodiesel to be exactly 10,151,018 kilo liters (kl), up from the revised 2021 biodiesel allocation to 9,413,033 kl.

The determination of the 2022 biodiesel allocation has been ratified through the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 150.K/EK.05/DJE/2021, dated November 30, 2021, concerning Stipulation of Oil Fuel Business Entities and Biodiesel-Type Biofuel Business Entities and Volume Allocation for Mixing Diesel Fuel Types of Oil for the Period January – December 2022.

As for the distribution of the biodiesel program in 2022, it will be supported by 22 BBM Business Entities (BU) with an installed capacity of 15,493,187 kl and an annual production capacity of 13,527,527 kl.
