Health is one of the most important investments for humans. One way to protect it can be done by taking health insurance, such as the Social Security Administrator for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) from the government.

The good news is that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ensured that BPJS contributions will not increase until 2024.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin. Following President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) directives, he ensured that there would be no increase in BPJS Health contributions until 2024.

The whole community does not need to worry even though there is a plan to change the BPJS Kesehatan class.

“Mr. President, if possible, don’t go up until 2024, so that we really guard until 2024. The government’s political position is this, don’t go up,” said Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, repeating President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) direction during a working meeting with Commission XI DPR RI, recently.

The certainty that there will be no change in the premium amount, both for class 1, 2, or 3 of BPJS Kesehatan, he said, will still be guaranteed despite the adjustment of the Indonesian Case Based Group (INA CBGs) rate from BPJS Kesehatan to hospitals in the range of 12% -30 %.

From the side of the BPJS Finance balance sheet, said Budi, it will still be strong until 2024, including for paying the new INA CBGs tariff which will be implemented starting January 1, 2023. Therefore, in 2025 it is estimated that the new BPJS Kesehatan contribution rate adjustment will occur.

“There should be a rate increase which I think is reasonable. It’s impossible for a hospital not to increase the salaries of its employees for 5 years. It’s impossible. Now we just need to educate the public that increasing premiums are very reasonable to do,” said Budi.

On the same occasion, the Chairman of the BPJS Kesehatan Supervisory Board, Abdul Kadir, said that the adjustment of INA-CBG’s rates based on basic health needs (KDK) and standard inpatient class (KRIS) would certainly raise the BPJS Kesehatan class fees drastically, including for the class 3.

Moreover, he continued, the size of the class 3 contribution participant population is 70 percent of the total BPJS Health participants as a whole. So it does not rule out the possibility that the increase in BPJS Health contribution rates in 2025 will reach around IDR 70,000 from the current IDR 35,000.

“So the increase is extraordinary and the actual simulation has been carried out by the actuary. If the increase follows the class 2 rate, then automatically the class 3 premium must also increase to Rp. 70,000, no longer Rp. 40,000,” said Kadir.

However, he also ensured that according to President Jokowi’s directives that were conveyed by Minister of Health Budi, until 2024 there were no plans to increase BPJS Health premiums.
