Pertalite and Diesel fuel oil (BBM) are predicted to run out in October or November. This was conveyed by the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas). They said that the fuel will run out if there is no control over the purchase of fuel oil.

PT Pertamina (Persero) noted that until July 2022, the quota for Pertalite fuel types remained at 6.2 million Kilo Liters (KL) and certain types of fuel (JBT), namely subsidized diesel, remaining 5.1 million KL.

“If control is not carried out, it can be done (out) between October and November,” said Saleh Abdurrahman, Member of the Committee for the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), quoted Thursday (11/8/2022).

Indeed, one of the efforts of the Pertalite and Solar Subsidized/ diesel fuel oil consumption control program is to register a vehicle through MyPertamina. In the future, Pertamina will capture vehicles following the specifications of vehicles that are entitled to fill Pertalite fuel and subsidized diesel.

The control program still has to wait for the issuance of the revised Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 191 of 2014 concerning the Supply, Distribution, and Retail Selling Price of BBM.

“Currently, registration continues to be intensified. We expect the revision to be published this month, so September will start (controlling),” said Saleh.

Furthermore, the Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Irto Ginting, noted that until July 2022, Pertalite fuel consumption reached 16.8 million KL from this year’s quota which was set at 23 million KL. Meanwhile, the consumption of subsidized solar has reached 9.9 million KL from the quota of 14.91 million in 2022.

Therefore, without restrictions on the purchase or additional quota of fuel, it is quite difficult for the state-owned company to maintain the remaining supply. Irto also suggested that the rules for purchasing fuel could be implemented immediately. “The arrangement of fuel must be done immediately,” he said.

Meanwhile, subsidized diesel until July 2022 has reached 9.9 million kilo liters (KL) from this year’s quota of 14.91 million KL. That way, the remaining quota of subsidized Solar until July is only 5.01 million KL.

Just so you know, without any restrictions on the purchase of Pertalite fuel and subsidized diesel, it is certain that there will be additional quotas for the two types of fuel. As a result, the burden of subsidies issued by the government in the 2022 State Budget will increase.

The government has issued subsidies for energy worth Rp 502 trillion. Where the subsidies for fuel and LPG will cost as much as Rp 320 trillion.

Understandably if the value of the subsidy swells, the reason is that the price of Pertalite fuel and subsidized diesel is far below the economic price on the international market.

President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Nicke Widyawati revealed that currently, each liter of diesel fuel is subsidized at Rp. 12,000 per liter. Meanwhile, the subsidized price of Pertalite is almost Rp. 10,000.

“Now how should the public control their fuel consumption? Each liter of diesel is subsidized by Rp. 12,000, Pertalite is subsidized by almost Rp. 10,000,” explained Nicke in the One Year Event of Managing WK Rokan, Monday (8/8/2022).

To reduce the swelling of the subsidy value, Nicke said, one way is to limit the purchase of Pertalite and Subsidized Solar to those who are entitled.

Nicke said that the control of subsidized fuel consumption was carried out through vehicle registration through MyPertamina. In the future, according to the criteria determined, this subsidized fuel is only for those who can’t afford it and small businesses.

“We all know the situation is very difficult, there is no one in the world who is not in trouble. We are not in an energy crisis but everything has a limit,” said Nicke.
