The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), inaugurated the launch of 2 million Toyota car exports on Tuesday (15/2) morning. The inauguration which took place in Karawang, West Java also indicated that Indonesia’s industrial sector is starting to recover.

The plan is that the producer, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing, will export 2 million Toyota units to Australia.

Jokowi said that during the pandemic, it was not only new challenges and tests for industry players in various sectors, but they also have to be observant in making breakthroughs, such as finding new markets.

Furthermore, Jokowi said that PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing is an example of an industry player who can see a good opportunity and find new markets.

“This opportunity has been proven to be taken by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing with its first export to Australia,” said Jokowi as quoted from the YouTube Setpres, Tuesday (15/2/2022).

With the successful export of 2 million Toyota units, Jokowi said this is proof that Indonesia has good human resources and excels in producing an export product.

He added, consumers will prefer the best and most high-quality products. Therefore, the success of this export proves that Indonesia has superior human resources.

However, even though he managed to export millions of products, he still reminded that these products still have to compete with other products from various countries globally.

Jokowi also appreciated the efforts of the Minister of Industry in encouraging car exports to nearly 80 countries on four continents.

There is something that makes Jokowi happy, he said, “What I am also happy about is that the local content or TKDN is more than 75 percent and many components to accessories in cars are supplied from our SME industry.”

The Nasional Target

Previously, based on information from the General Secretary of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Kukuh Kumara said, previously, the Indonesian government targeted the export of 1 million cars.

However, this failed to happen due to the ongoing pandemic.

Currently, said Kukuh, trade agreements with several countries have been established. Gaikidno hopes that this trade agreement can be used to export the motor vehicle industry.

Indonesia has a target to become a car production base. As many as 1 million cars made in Indonesia are targeted to be sent abroad by 2025.
