The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the world in the last two years has forced the world to improve in dealing with it. In fact, some countries have changed the status of the pandemic to endemic. Then, when will Indonesia turn endemic?
Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that the transition from the Covid-19 pandemic to endemic must be carried out carefully through various stages.
Jokowi said the transition from the Covid-19 pandemic to endemic must be carried out gradually because the government does not want Indonesia to be like other countries which immediately implement a policy of removing masks. According to him, the government will look at the situation during the transition period over the next six months.
“I don’t want to be like other countries to immediately take off the mask, right? This is still a transition period, in about six months we will see what it will look like, then please take off your mask outside the room, if you still wear a mask indoors, “Jokowi said in a press statement quoted from the Setpres page, Monday (25/4/2020). 2022).
Jokowi added that several stages must be passed and the government will not rush in making policy decisions.
According to him, the government also has several experiences when dealing with spikes in cases of the Delta and Omicron variants of Covid-19.
“There are stages that we don’t need to rush. Regardless, we have experience with what Delta was like, what Omicron was like, so we have to be careful and vigilant,” he said.
Meanwhile, the government’s decision to relax restrictions on community activities and allow going home for Lebaran this year, he said, was decided with careful consideration.
Jokowi said the daily Covid-19 cases were already very low and active cases were below 20,000. Seeing these conditions, the government finally allowed people to go home for Eid.
“In the past, first of all, we did allow going home because we saw that the daily case numbers were already very low and the active cases were already below 20 thousand, that’s really low. However, there is a transition period that we are still paying attention to,” he said.
