The stunning Kelingking Beach in the village of Bunga Mekar, Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, is set to undergo a remarkable transformation with the installation of an outdoor glass lift reaching a staggering height of 182 meters. This ambitious project, inspired by the famous Avatar Mountain glass lift in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Hunan, China, aims to provide an extraordinary experience for visitors seeking to explore the enchanting red sand beach.

Interestingly, the foreign investor behind the construction of the lift at Kelingking Beach is the same visionary who brought the Avatar Mountain lift to life.

By introducing this innovative glass viewing platform, tourists will no longer need to navigate the treacherous slopes on foot to reach the picturesque coastline of Kelingking Beach.

This exciting development took its first steps forward as the ceremonial stone laying ceremony marked the commencement of the glass lift construction on a momentous day, Friday (July 7, 2023).

The implementation of this grand project is a collaborative effort between a Chinese investor, PT BNP (Bina Nusa Properti) as the authorized project manager, and the revered Banjar Adat Karang Dawa, representing the local community in Bungamekar Village. The estimated investment value for the construction of the glass lift stands at an impressive Rp200 billion, affirming the magnitude of this remarkable venture.

Komang Suantara, Director of PT BNP, expressed his enthusiasm for unearthing the potential of Nusa Penida through this transformative project, emphasizing the significance of the lift descending to Kelingking Beach. Reflecting on the challenges encountered during the project’s inception, Suantara remarked, “The realization of this lift has not been an easy journey.”

With the anticipated completion of the glass lift, expected within a year, visitors will relish the opportunity to ascend to a height of approximately 182 meters and traverse a 64-meter-long bridge, marveling at the breathtaking panoramas. Every 20 meters, purposefully designed photo spots will enable visitors to capture the mesmerizing beauty of the surroundings, creating lasting memories of their visit to Kelingking Beach.

Notably, Made Sudiarkajaya, the Head of the Investment and Integrated Licensing Service Office of Klungkung Regency, proudly asserted that the glass lift project at Kelingking Beach is an unparalleled endeavor worldwide, as it is the sole project situated on a coastal landscape. In an era where glass lifts predominantly grace hillsides and mountains, this groundbreaking initiative sets Kelingking Beach apart as an unrivaled attraction.

While this project undoubtedly qualifies as a mega undertaking, Sudiarkajaya emphasized the importance of adhering to the principle of community-based tourism in the development of Nusa Penida’s attractions. The aim is to foster an environment where investors share the benefits of the project with the local community, leading to increased prosperity and improved livelihoods.

As the glass lift project at Kelingking Beach continues to captivate imaginations, the anticipated transformation of Nusa Penida’s tourism industry is on the horizon. With an estimated completion date in 2024, tourists flocking to Bali will undoubtedly find themselves drawn to the mesmerizing charms of Nusa Penida, where the glass lift promises an unrivaled experience that seamlessly blends nature’s splendor with architectural marvels.
