The government has made adjustments to the business sector of malls and shopping centers in the 3rd level of the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) area, which are allowed to operate until 5 PM (Western Indonesian Time).
Alphonzus Widjaja, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association (APPBI), welcomed that adjustment policy. According to him, the resumption of malls and shopping centers to operate is breath-taking and good news for retail entrepreneurs certainly.
Moreover, malls and shopping centers can only be open until 5 PM. Peak hours at shopping centers and restaurants occur at night. “If they only operate until 5 PM, malls and restaurants will lose their peak visit,” he said.
Alphonzus hopes that this adjustment to the operation of malls and shopping centers can be applied to the PPKM 4th level area. This is considering the number of malls and shopping centers in those areas.
Previously, it was reported that the government extended the PPKM 4th level and 3rd level policies in various regions in Indonesia until August 2, 2021. The PPKM’s extensions were followed by several new rules related to adjustments and restrictions in several business sectors and public spaces.
