The government has started the first phase of the Manggarai Station development. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) started this development directly on Monday (26/12/2022). According to him, this action is very important and urgent.
According to Jokowi, Manggarai Station is one of the central stations in Jakarta, including being part of the Manggarai-Cikarang double track project with the addition of the number of tracks from the original 7 lines to 14 lines.
“The development of this station is very important to increase the frequency and headway of train travel, increase the accessibility and mobility of the public from Jakarta to other supporting cities and vice versa, increase airport train services to Soekarno-Hatta airport, and integrate other modes of transportation such as Transjakarta, online motorcycle taxis, bajaj, and others,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi added, of the 14 lines, 10 lines were at grade trains (land concept) and the other 4 lines were elevated train lines.
In his remarks, Jokowi also said that Manggarai Station is one of the stations with the busiest train traffic in Indonesia.
“Every day this station serves KRL Commuter Line stops for Jakarta Kota, Tanah Abang, and Bekasi with very heavy traffic and passengers,” he said.
Through this station, it is also hoped that it can integrate other modes of public transportation, such as trans Jakarta, online motorcycle taxis, bajaj, and others. “The development of this station is very important to increase access,” said Jokowi.
With better and more integrated facilities, connectivity will be even better. Then mobility and community activities will be more smooth and efficient and people will be happier using mass transportation.
“By reciting bismillahirrahmanirrahim, the development of Phase I of the Manggarai Station was inaugurated today,” Jokowi said.
