What was once a hidden escape is now drawing serious attention. Bedil Island, often referred to as the “Raja Ampat of Banyuwangi,” is seeing a sharp rise in tourist arrivals, signaling its growing appeal among travelers.
Located in Pancer Hamlet, Sumberagung Village, Pesanggaran District, Banyuwangi, East Java, the destination continues to post steady growth in visitor numbers. Data from the Banyuwangi Office of Culture and Tourism shows that the upward trend has been particularly strong during peak holiday periods.
During the 2024 Christmas and New Year holiday season, known locally as Nataru, 3,937 tourist visits were recorded through access via Mustika Beach. One year later, during the 2025 Nataru holiday period, that number jumped to 9,181 visitors.
“The increase in visits during the 2025/2026 Nataru holiday even reached 133 percent compared to the previous year,” said Head of the Marketing Division of the Banyuwangi Office of Culture and Tourism, Ainur Rofiq, on Monday (26/1).
The appeal of Bedil Island lies in its natural setting. Visitors are greeted by clusters of small, exotic islands surrounded by clear waters that shift from turquoise blue to green. The scenery closely resembles the karst landscape of Piaynemo in Papua, a comparison often mentioned by travelers.

Beyond the view, the island offers calm lagoons suitable for snorkeling and stretches of untouched white sand. The atmosphere remains quiet and unspoiled, giving visitors a sense of isolation and relaxation that is increasingly rare.
Ainur Rofiq explained that the surge in visitor numbers did not happen overnight. Digital promotion by the Banyuwangi Regency Government has played a major role, supported by the strong reach of social media and continuous improvements to supporting infrastructure.
The experience is further enhanced by Mustika Beach, which serves as the main entry point to Bedil Island. Its natural beauty adds to the journey, while the warm hospitality of local residents creates a welcoming atmosphere.
The presence of local culinary micro and small businesses, along with supporting facilities such as toilets and prayer rooms, has also improved visitor comfort. These elements encourage tourists to stay longer and fully enjoy the destination, reinforcing Bedil Island growing reputation as one of rising tourism highlights in Banyuwangi.
