The National Intelligence Agency (BIN) responds to a poster calling for action entitled ‘Jokowi End Game’ circulated a few days ago. BIN said some groups have an interest in provoking people to demonstrate during the current pandemic situation.
Wawan Hari Purwanto, Deputy VII of BIN, discussed demonstrations protects by the constitution but are very dangerous if carried out in the current situation.
“Demonstrations are part of conveying aspirations protects by the constitution. However, demonstrations during the Covid-19 pandemic are very dangerous and didn’t reflect a patriotic spirit because the country and all of the nation’s elements are currently fighting against the Coronavirus’s spread,” said Wawan.
According to him, demonstrations during a pandemic are vulnerable to creating new clusters of Covid-19 transmission. Demonstrations will always bring many people and tend to ignore health protocols during the pandemic threat. He added that many people look healthy, even though they have a virus inside their bodies and can transmit it to other people.
Wawan also mentioned that there are groups that try to provoke the public. According to him, these groups often use demonstrations to instigate, exacerbate the situation, and even want President Jokowi to resign.
For this reason, Wawan appealed to the public to be wary of provocative narratives on social media and to reject demonstrations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The public is advised to be aware of provocative narratives on social media and rejects demonstrations during the Covid-19 pandemic. What we needed now is the solidarity of all parties to war against the Coronavirus,” he added.
