The Indonesian government has released a detailed spatial plan (RDTR) for the new capital city (IKN) in East Kalimantan, which is currently under construction. The plan reveals that most of the area will be covered by forests.

The greenery will dominate the core government center of the new capital, with 63% of the 6,600-hectare KIPP IKN Nusantara designated as forest area.

The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, explained that the new city will be built within the “smart forest city” corridor.

The RDTR map shows the forest area surrounding the central government district. The forest stretches from the south, southwest, west, northwest, north, and northeast of the KIPP IKN Nusantara.

The government buildings will be located in the middle of the KIPP. The presidential palace will be the largest complex in the government area, covering 100 hectares of land. The presidential palace in the IKN Nusantara will be in the shape of a Garuda bird, which is the national emblem of Indonesia.

The vice president’s palace will occupy 14.58 hectares of land, while the parliament building will occupy 41.81 hectares of land. The judicial complex of the Supreme Court, Constitutional Court, and Judicial Commission will cover an area of 15.16 hectares. The other ministries’ buildings will occupy areas ranging from 1 to 5 hectares.

The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, stated that the construction of the new capital has already reached 25% progress.

He expressed optimism that the activities planned for Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17, 2024, could still be carried out as scheduled. Basuki also revealed that the development of the new capital city has already attracted many investors. These investors plan to build various facilities that will be needed by the people, such as private schools, hospitals, and more.

Furthermore, President Joko Widodo plans to invite investors to visit the IKN. The visit is scheduled to take place after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. Basuki emphasized that the President will visit the new capital city after the holiday to check the progress of its development.

Overall, the new national capital city project in East Kalimantan is making significant progress, and with the government’s continued efforts, it is expected to become a successful and thriving city in the future.
