The House of Representatives (DPR) Commission II is considering the proposals for Depok, Bogor, and Bekasi to enter the Greater Jakarta area. The proposal is in the revision of Law Number 29 of 2007 concerning the Provincial Government of the Jakarta Special Capital Region. This was conveyed by a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Rifqinizamy Karsayuda.

“Regarding the proposal from the Mayor of Depok to include Depok, Bogor, and Bekasi in the Greater Jakarta area, Commission II of the DPR will consider it in discussing the revision of the Law on DKI Jakarta,” Rifqi said in Jakarta, Friday (22/7/2022).

According to him, the Law on DKI Jakarta must indeed be changed after Law Number 3 of 2022 concerning the State Capital was formed.

He explained that the revision would regulate whether the Jakarta area would include Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) or regulate specific characteristics.

“Because of its specificity in Article 18 of the constitution, it must be different from the existence of other provinces in Indonesia,” he added.

Rifqi explained that when Jakarta did not become a Special Capital Region, the discourse that needed to be considered was to place the districts and cities that are currently administrative cities into autonomous ones.

According to him, when the changes to the shape of the regency and city are carried out, the region will have direct elections for regional heads and DPRD members.

“We will discuss all of that at the latest by the end of 2022 so that there is no dualism in the juridical aspect of the national capital,” he said.

He admitted that currently, de jure, the capital city of Indonesia is in two places, Jakarta and IKN Nusantara, until changes are made
