A faster and more efficient travel option between Banyuwangi and Denpasar is coming soon. By June 2025, a new fast boat service will connect Marina Boom Port in Banyuwangi with Serangan Island Port in Denpasar, offering a much quicker way to cross between East Java and Bali.
With a sleek 70-meter-long and 5-meter-wide vessel, the fast boat will accommodate up to 300 passengers per trip from Banyuwangi to Denpasar. Journey time? Just 2.5 hours—far shorter than the 4.5 hours typically spent on the road covering the 140-kilometer distance. The service is expected to appeal especially to tourists looking to explore both provinces in one trip.
Local officials are optimistic that this new route will encourage more visitors, especially those coming from Bali. “With the shorter travel time from Bali, we hope more tourists will be drawn to visit Banyuwangi,” said Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
The initiative doesn’t just aim to improve tourism. The new route is also seen as a step toward positioning Banyuwangi as a vital hub for logistics and transport at the easternmost point of Java. And the regional government has already been hard at work making it possible.
To support the fast boat’s operations, East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa recently inspected the port infrastructure. A number of key facilities have been completed ahead of the launch. These include a 600-meter-long dock for local marine transport (Pelra), a cruise ship pier, a clean water installation (ground tank), and the Regional Feeder Port Office (UPT PPR), all managed by the East Java Provincial Government.

Khofifah expressed high hopes for the project’s potential impact, stating, “This service is expected to serve as a gateway for international tourists to enter Banyuwangi, ultimately helping to boost the region’s economic growth.”
In addition to improving accessibility, future plans include developing a traditional-style waiting area at the port, designed with the cultural aesthetics of Banyuwangi in mind. This upgrade aims to make passengers feel more welcome and comfortable before they set sail.
As the launch date draws closer, all eyes are on June 2025, when this ambitious sea route begins to reshape the way travelers experience East Java and Bali.
