Thousands of runners are heading to West Sumatra this April. Not just to race, but to celebrate the beauty and culture of Padang. The Blue Ocean Minang (BOM) Run 2025 promises more than just a competition. From April 18 to 20, participants and spectators will experience the stunning Padang Beach, rich Minangkabau traditions, and a vibrant entrepreneurial showcase. This isn’t just a race, it’s a full cultural immersion.

A total of 2,300 participants from all across Indonesia have confirmed their attendance. Big names are also expected, including Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, and former Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.

“We’re down to the final touches. The jerseys and medals are ready. We’ve also coordinated with Padang’s local government, especially through related departments, to ensure the event runs smoothly,” said Yulviadi Adek, a committee member and Daily Chair of PB Ikasmantri Padang, during a press briefing on Tuesday (April 8, 2025).

The participants will start arriving on Friday (April 18). Runners are coming in from Makassar, Banjarmasin, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and several other cities across Sumatra. All will stay at hotels recommended by the organizing committee.

Before the event, participants will have time to explore the city, get familiar with the race routes, and enjoy Padang’s natural charm and culinary delights. “The BOM Run 2025 has three race categories—5K, 10K, and 21K. Each will have three winners and additional honorable mentions. The total cash prize amounts to IDR 100 million,” Adek said.

But the BOM Run is more than just a sporting event. Starting Friday (April 18), an entrepreneur festival will also take place, showcasing Minangkabau cuisine, cultural heritage, and supporting local MSMEs. The goal is to help small businesses boost their sales, connect with partners, and expand their networks.

“We’ve provided booths for MSMEs to exhibit their products. The exhibition will be held at the Youth Center on Jalan Bagindo Aziz Chan,” Adek explained.

He emphasized the broader aim behind this multi-day event. “This activity is meant to boost tourism, the culinary scene, and the hotel industry so the local economy can keep turning,” he said.

With runners ready, hotels filling up, and booths being prepared, Padang is about to become the center of attention—not just for athletes, but for anyone eager to see how sports, culture, and business can come together in one festive moment.
