The airline from Indonesia, PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk. (GIAA), on Friday (4/3/2022) officially served Sydney – Denpasar flights. This is in line with various international travel relaxation policies for foreign tourists implemented by the Indonesian government.

Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra said the Sydney – Denpasar flight is the first international flight route connecting Australia with Bali in early 2022.

Moreover, this flight is also directly connected to the Jakarta – Sydney flight route. Thus, the Sydney – Denpasar flight will later be served by aircraft that previously also served Jakarta – Sydney flights.

Therefore, with the service of the Sydney – Denpasar flight, now Garuda has connected Australia with Indonesia through 2 flight routes every week. The service is carried out in the 2 largest hubs in Indonesia, namely Jakarta and Denpasar.

He said, “The Sydney – Denpasar flight route is served once a week on every Friday by operating the A330-300.”

According to Irfan, the policy of relaxing international tourists and business trips to Indonesia is the right step in the recovery of the economy and tourism in Bali.

The opening of the Sydney-Bali route is predicted to encourage economic and tourism enthusiasm in Bali because in the period before the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in 2019, Australian tourists recorded the largest visit, which was up to more than 1.2 million tourists who entered Bali.

He also hopes that the operation of this flight can be the beginning of optimism for the revival of the Indonesian economy, especially in terms of the tourism sector in the long term.

Yesterday, on the Sydney – Denpasar flight which started operating on Friday (4/2/2022), Garuda Indonesia carried as many as 60 passengers from Sydney who came from various regions in Australia. In addition, Garuda Indonesia also transports cargo from Sydney up to 20 tons consisting of fishery commodities, fresh fruit, and general cargo.

On the other hand, the Governor of Bali Province, Wayan Koster also hopes that the flight can support sustainable efforts to realize the recovery of the tourism and economic sectors in Bali and its surroundings.

He explained, “We are also enthusiastic to look forward to the arrival of foreign tourists from various other countries, especially those served by Garuda Indonesia flights to Bali. With the various preparations presented by Garuda Indonesia for its service users, we believe that the safety, comfort, and health of tourists are priorities that will continue to be maintained.”
