New Year’s Eve in southern Yogyakarta will come with the sound of waves, open skies, and a full afternoon-to-midnight celebration. Goa Cemara Beach in Bantul is preparing to welcome visitors through the Goa Cemara New Year Festival 2026, an annual event designed for tourists and local residents who want to greet the new year in a coastal setting.

The festival will take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, starting at 2:30 p.m. WIB and continuing until the clock strikes midnight. Activities will run nonstop, allowing visitors to arrive early, settle in, and enjoy the atmosphere long before the countdown begins.

Goa Cemara Beach sits in Patihan Hamlet, Gadingsari, Sanden, Bantul, around 45 minutes from Yogyakarta city center. The location forms part of the southern coastal stretch of Yogyakarta, connecting well-known spots such as Parangtritis Beach, Depok Beach, the sand dunes, Samas Beach, Goa Cemara Beach, and Pantai Baru. The beach earned its name from rows of casuarina trees that grow thick and tall, creating shaded corridors that resemble natural caves. This distinctive landscape has long been a defining feature of the area.

The beach offers wide open space, cooler air, and scenery that feels calm yet lively. Families often choose this destination because the area is considered safe for children. The terrain also suits outbound activities and camping, making it appealing for visitors who want more than a short beach stop.

All festival activities will be centered in the main parking park area of Goa Cemara Beach. This is the largest open space in the tourist zone and can accommodate a high number of visitors comfortably.

Entertainment begins in the afternoon. Visitors can join Senam Segara, a beach exercise session held as the sun moves toward the horizon. This activity invites guests to stay active while enjoying the coastal breeze and sunset view.

As evening approaches, visitors who prefer a slower pace can take part in Cerita Senja. This cheerful camping experience allows guests to relax on the beach, enjoy the changing sky, and wait for the night festivities in a more laid-back setting.

Once night falls, the focus shifts to the main stage. Local cultural performances by Sanggar Seni Bantul will take place, followed by live music shows. Bernada and Astern Music are scheduled to perform, keeping the atmosphere lively right up to the final moments of the year.

The transition into the new year will be marked by a ceremonial countdown shortly before midnight. Around the venue, visitors can also explore Pasar Pesisir. This coastal market brings together MSME tenants offering local food and specialty products from the Bantul shoreline.

For many visitors, the market becomes a place to sample regional flavors or pick up souvenirs before heading home. With its open-air concept by the sea, the Goa Cemara New Year Festival 2026 is expected to offer a different way to celebrate New Year’s Eve, blending nature, culture, and community along the southern coast of Yogyakarta.
