High tidal waves are predicted to occur in the East Java Province. This was stated directly by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Tanjung Perak, Surabaya. They issued an early warning of the maximum tides potential in several coastal areas in East Java next week.

Head of the Tanjung Perak Surabaya Maritime Meteorology Station, Daryatno, in a press statement in Surabaya, Sunday (30/5/2022), said the maximum tide was 130 to 140 centimeters above sea level.

He said several areas in East Java that have the potential for high waves, including the Surabaya port area, are valid from May 30 to June 3, 2022, from 10:00 to 13:00 WIB.

“Due to the high tide, there is the potential for tidal flooding from May 30 to June 4,” he said.

For other areas, namely the west coast of Surabaya, including Gresik, Lamongan, and Tuban, it will occur from May 30 to June 4, 2022, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB.

Furthermore, the eastern Surabaya area, including Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, South Bangkalan, Sampang, and the Madura Strait area is estimated to occur from May 30 to June 3, 2022, from 10:00 to 12:00 WIB.

In addition, for the Kalianget coastal area, including Pamekasan, it will occur from May 30 to June 3, 2022, from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB.

Furthermore, these high waves have the potential to cause tidal waves and inundation which will disrupt the activities of coastal communities, including transportation facilities.

“The public is also advised to anticipate the occurrence of the maximum sea tide and coordinate with the local BMKG to get the latest information,” he said.
