The popularity of historical sites tourism in Bali is on the rise, as both domestic and international tourists are increasingly drawn to the unique cultural and historical attractions that the island has to offer. In addition to its renowned beaches, Bali is also home to numerous historical sites that attract a growing number of visitors.
Some of the favorite historical sites include Taman Tirta Gangga, Taman Soekasada, Lingkungan Pura Besakih, Pura Lempuyang, Puri Karangasem, and Tenganan Pegringsingan, which have seen a significant increase in visitor numbers over the past two months. Pura Lempuyang, in particular, is the most visited site, attracting 18,317 foreign and 3,007 domestic tourists, while Lingkungan Pura Besakih saw 7,178 foreign and 2,000 domestic visitors.
Ana Christiana, the head of the Destination and Tourism Marketing Division of the Karangasem Culture and Tourism Office, explains that historical heritage tourism has become a popular choice for many tourists due to their curiosity about Karangasem’s rich history and culture. She notes that the influence of travel agents plays a significant role in directing tourists to these historical sites.
In addition to historical heritage tourism, marine tourism also sees a high volume of visitors, particularly for diving and snorkeling activities. Popular spots for these activities include Pantai Amed, Padang Bai, Candi Dasa, and Tulamben, which have seen between 300 and 1,200 visitors in recent times.
To increase the number of visitors, the government is planning to promote more tourist destinations in Bali. One strategy involves media gatherings with travel agents to showcase Bali’s attractions. Additionally, the government plans to hold events and improve tourism facilities and infrastructure in Karangasem. Despite the limited budget, the government remains committed to promoting Bali as a world-class tourist destination.
