The Indonesia International Marathon 2022 edition will be held in Bali soon. According to the schedule, the international level marathon will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022. Athletes will compete along Grand Inna Bali Beach, Ngurah Rai Bypass, Kuta Beach, Raya Legian, Seminyak Area, and Jalan Sunset Road.

This event is a running competition whose implementation applies the competition standards from the World Athletics-AIMS, which was initiated by the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and involves the best Race Director and Race Measurer.

For the smooth implementation of the event, several roads will be temporarily closed on June 26, 2022, from 02.00 – 10.30 am WITA.

“Road users can avoid this road or take an alternative route. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the committee said.

“Road users can avoid this road or take an alternative route. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the committee said.

Previously, the Indonesia International Marathon had to be on hiatus for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “One day Indonesia could become the venue for the implementation of the world major marathon,” said KONI Secretary-General Ade Lukman in a Meet & Greet at the Sarinah Building, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (31/5).

Co-Chairman of the Indonesia International Marathon 2022 Hardjo Supoyo hopes that this competition can prove that Indonesia can hold an international standard marathon. “This is the work of the nation’s children, we hope to have a worldwide, classy, and international marathon competition,” he said.

Four events are being contested, namely the 42 km Marathon, 21 km Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. In the Marathon, there is one challenge for local runners, namely breaking the national record of the late Eduardus Nabunome with a time of 2 hours 19 minutes 18 seconds which was created at the XIII/1993 National Sports Week in Jakarta.

Runners who can break the record will get a prize of Rp. 1 billion. “We hope that there are Indonesian runners who can break records from existing records. Yesterday, at the 2021 SEA Games, someone broke the world record, what does that mean? That we can,” said Ade Lukman.

“Indonesia can do it, we are optimistic with the ability of these athletes to break the record, this has been clearly proven, we hope that the marathon can also break the record.”

Race Director Indonesia International Marathon Riena Tambunan said the prize was a tribute to Eduardus Nabunome. He hopes that the prize can bring back the passion for the nation’s children to break the record.

“This is a tribute to Edu, this is a reward for the nation’s children or runners, we all have the same passion, and no one knows whether this record can be broken or not,” said Riena.

“So this will be given to the winner and we will also pay attention to Edu’s family.”
