Bali is set to welcome a new world-class attraction that blends medical expertise with luxury travel. The Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is being developed as a premier health tourism hub, designed to serve both local and international visitors seeking treatment, relaxation, and wellness.

The 41.26-hectare development was officially inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday, July 25. It is part of the government’s broader strategy to drive sustainable economic growth, create jobs, and draw foreign tourists to Indonesia for healthcare services.

At the heart of the Sanur SEZ is its International Medical Facility and Center of Excellence, offering advanced care in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, and Orthopedics (CONGO). Other specialties include stem cell therapy, aesthetic surgery, fertility treatments, ophthalmology, and geriatric care.

Visitors will also find luxury accommodations. The five-star The Meru Sanur and the Bali Beach Hotel form part of the development, alongside The Heritage Collection—Bali’s tallest hotel at 10 stories with 274 rooms.

The Meru Sanur will host the Taru Pramana Spa & Wellness, inspired by the traditional Balinese healing practice of Usada Bali. The name “Taru Pramana” translates to “the wisdom of the tree of life” and pays homage to Bali’s ethnobotanical heritage, which forms the basis for many natural and traditional healing methods.

Here, guests can experience signature rituals such as Meru-Jaga, Meru-Raga, and Angga-Lepa, each combining traditional herbal remedies, intuitive massage techniques, and meditation. These treatments aim to promote detoxification, deep relaxation, and full-body recovery.

The spa will also feature the Mandala of Wellbeing program, which takes participants through three stages—Rooting, Rebirth, and Resonance—for a complete journey of self-transformation.

Another highlight is The Well-Being of Usada program, offering diverse wellness activities. Guests can join breathing exercises (Olah Prana), dynamic yoga sessions (Segara Yoga), personal fitness training (JagaRaga), or opt for classes like Pilates & Stretch, Contrast Class, The Power of 8, and Power Walk.

By combining cutting-edge medical facilities with authentic Balinese wellness traditions, the Sanur SEZ is positioned to become a leading destination for health tourism on the global stage.
