As a city designed with a forest city concept, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that the air quality in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) is better than in Singapore. He made this remark after inspecting the Embung MBH in the Core Government Area (KIPP) with ministers earlier this morning, Monday (August 12, 2024).
Jokowi proudly announced, “We checked the air quality index in IKN, which stands at 6, while the maximum acceptable level is 50. In comparison, other capitals like Singapore have an index of about 53. Here, the air is incredibly fresh, clean, and beneficial for health and longevity.”
The President elaborated on his motivation for bringing Vice President K.H. Ma’ruf Amin and the ministers to experience IKN’s morning air. “I wanted the Vice President, Pak Prabowo, and all the ministers to feel firsthand how clean and refreshing the air is here in IKN,” he stated.
During the cabinet meeting that followed, Jokowi outlined that IKN is being developed with a dual focus on the forest city and smart city concepts. The future vision includes electric vehicles and green energy, which are expected to contribute to maintaining clean air quality in the city.

“We experienced how cool and crisp the air was this morning, with an air quality index of just 6. This is well below the maximum of 50, and many cities today are above this threshold,” Jokowi remarked, underscoring the significant improvement in air quality.
When questioned about the air quality comparison with Jakarta, Jokowi responded with a chuckle, indicating a lighthearted approach to the query.
Following the inspection of the embung, the President, Vice President, and ministers will proceed with their inaugural full cabinet meeting at the Garuda Palace in IKN. This meeting marks a new chapter in the development and governance of the upcoming capital city, showcasing its commitment to environmental excellence and modern urban planning.
