Recently, some netizens’ tweets regarding uncomfortable economy class train seats have gone viral on social media. As a result of this complaint, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) will update its facilities by replacing new economy trains for the convenience of passengers.

KAI’s VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus said the rejuvenation was aimed at increasing customer comfort while traveling.

“To provide the best service to customers, KAI always strives to make continuous improvements in various aspects. This time, KAI will buy new economy class trains to replace facilities that have been operating for a long time,” said Joni Martinus in an official statement, Thursday. (25/8).

Currently, KAI has 1,346 passenger train units, of which 22 percent of the trains have been in operation for a long time, so they need to be renovated. Of the total number of passenger train units owned by KAI, 58 percent are economy class trains, which are 831 train units.

Joni said that his party was still recording the number of trains that would be purchased to replace the trains that had been in operation for a long time.

The plan to purchase this new economy train is also one of KAI’s steps to meet the expectations of customers who continue to recover after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In continuing the company’s transformation, KAI will continue to listen to various inputs from customers.

This policy is KAI’s response to viral posts on Twitter. a passenger complained that the economy class train seats were very uncomfortable.
