A major fire spreading across Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has forced authorities to take a much stricter step. All access to the Mount Bromo tourist area has now been completely closed.
The closure was introduced as the wildfire continues to spread through the national park. Authorities said the decision is necessary to protect visitors while firefighting operations continue.
According to Metro TV journalist Wahyu Tiar, the tourism closure officially took effect on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
This time, the restriction covers every entrance to the Bromo area. Access from Lumajang, Probolinggo, and Pasuruan has been closed. The two entrance routes located in Malang Regency are also included in the shutdown.
As a result, residents, tourists, and tourism jeep operators can no longer freely enter or leave the Mount Bromo Caldera.
The TNBTS Great Hall confirmed that all entrances to the Bromo tourist area were closed from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8. The measure is intended to give firefighting teams better conditions to handle the blaze. Visitor safety is another major consideration behind the decision.

The closure covers five access points:
- Cemorolawang in Probolinggo Regency
- Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency
- Jemplang in Malang Regency
- Coban Trisula in Malang Regency
- Senduro in Lumajang Regency
There is currently no set date for when these routes will reopen. The closure will remain in place until further notice from the TNBTS Great Hall.
This means tourists should not attempt to enter the area through any of these routes while the closure is still active.
The closure also affects visitors who had already purchased their Bromo entrance tickets online. For tourists with bookings scheduled during the closure period, the TNBTS Great Hall has provided two options. They can reschedule their visit or request a refund for their tickets.
The arrangement is intended to address the impact of the sudden closure while firefighting operations continue. Authorities have also issued a broader warning to everyone operating in the area.
Residents, tourists, and tourism service providers are being urged not to conduct tourism activities anywhere within TNBTS while the closure remains in effect. The restriction applies throughout the affected area, including the Mount Bromo tourism zone.
For now, the priority is clear. Authorities are focusing on controlling the expanding fire and keeping visitors away from areas that could pose a safety risk.
