Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, on Monday (24/10), confirmed that the East-West Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction Phase 3 connecting Balaraja-Cikarang will begin in 2024.
“So, East-West is currently conducting a feasibility study. The MRT is from Cibitung to Balaraja. We hope it can be completed by 2023, and we have started in 2024,” explained Budi Karya, quoted from a video press statement, Monday. (24/10/2022).
On the other hand, Budi Karya said that currently, two countries will become investors in the project, namely Japan and England. Meanwhile, the Fatmawati-TMII Phase 4 project has just been offered to South Korea.
Budi Karya said that all investors are still waiting for the completion of the feasibility study before they can calculate their investment.
Not only that, but Budi Karya also emphasized that later there would be some transit areas with a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) orientation that would be integrated with some MRT stations.
He advised the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta that the TOD area could provide commercial benefits to the government and PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda). For this reason, the TOD location point has not yet been determined and is still being discussed in a feasibility study to consider how much contribution the developer has made to the government.
“So later in the FS, it is determined at each point how much contribution should be made. Because as is known at a certain radius, KLB and KDB increase. We know that mass transportation without subsidies and support from the community who get pleasure is important,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the other hand, the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said that he would synchronize the financing allocated in the 2023 DKI Jakarta Regional Budget. He focused on the MRT and LRT Jakarta development programs.
“There have been many discussions including details and we will synchronize the financing in the 2023 APBD. There are several things we can do,” he said at the Ministry of Transportation, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 24, 2022.
Today Heru met the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi at the Ministry of Transportation. The two discussed transportation in the capital city, ranging from electric vehicles, and the construction of vertical parking lots, to the Phase 3 (East-West) MRT project.
Heru did not elaborate on the tasks of the DKI government concerning the MRT construction. To be sure, three countries have expressed interest in investing, namely Japan, South Korea, and the UK.
According to Heru, the DKI government has made a DKI Regional Development Work Plan (RKPD) to be allocated in the 2023 APBD. The DKI government and DPRD just need to sharpen the value of the development budget.
