Elon Musk seems to give a signal to Indonesia. He said that the best launch location for his rocket (SpaceX) is at the equator. A positive signal for cooperation?

These comments were expressed in a virtual dialogue with the CEO of PT Bakrie & Brothers Tbk (BNBR), Anindya Bakrie, at the B20 Summit 1-on-1 Navigating Future Disruption Of Global Technological Innovation at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Monday (14/11/2022).

On that occasion, Anin said when he visited the SpaceX facility in Boca Chica, Texas, he heard that the best place to launch a rocket is from the equator.

“Yes, that’s right, it’s best to launch in a mountainous location on the equator,” said Elon Musk.

Elon then responded to a question about whether SpaceX had plans to build a rocket launch site on the equator in Indonesia, especially in the Indonesian National Capital (IKN), which is on the equator.

Elon admits that he is open to the possibility of building SpaceX rocket launch platforms around the world, including in Indonesia. This is related to his plan to use the launch station for transportation around the world.

“I think in the future we can travel by rocket from one part of the world to another and you can travel at more than 20 times the speed of sound,” said Elon Musk.

Elon Musk says, with that speed, people can travel anywhere in the world in less than an hour.

Indonesia has actually been in communication with Elon Musk for a long time regarding opportunities for cooperation. However, The realization of the cooperation still seems to take much longer.

This was conveyed directly by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). According to him, negotiating with Elon Musk was not easy.

Jokowi answered a question about the difficulty of negotiating with Tesla owner, Elon Musk, compared to relatively easy communication with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This was stated by Jokowi at the Bloomberg CEO Forum at Sofitel Nusa Dua Bali, Friday (11/11/2022).

“Everything takes time, I don’t want to rush without any results. This requires intense communication and the results will be visible,” Jokowi said.
