Lake Toba, one of Indonesia’s prized Super Priority Tourism Destinations, will soon become a global focal point as it hosts the 2024 Aquabike Jetski World Championship from November 13-17. Featuring over 100 racers from 30 countries, this high-profile event is expected to capture the attention of an estimated 180 million viewers worldwide.

Beyond the spectacle, it is projected to generate an impressive economic impact of IDR 1.7 trillion, offering significant support to local businesses and communities.

Located in Sumatra, Lake Toba is well known for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. As such, this event not only highlights the region’s breathtaking scenery but also its economic potential, solidifying its role as a prominent location for water sports in Indonesia.

The Aquabike Jetski World Championship will span across the regencies of Karo, Dairi, Simalungun, and Samosir, and it will be enhanced by the Lake Toba Cultural Festival, adding a layer of local charm to the global sports event.

“This championship is a tremendous opportunity for Indonesia to present its aquatic tourism on a global stage,” said Ferry Yuniarto Kono, Director of the Fund Management and Sports Business Agency (LPDUK) at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“With ten Indonesian racers participating, they will not only inspire the youth but also bring pride to our nation in front of an international audience,” he added in a press release on Friday, November 8, 2024.

InJourney, a company dedicated to sustainable tourism, is also playing a key role in making this event an inclusive celebration for local communities. Acting Corporate Secretary Group Head Yudhistira Setiawan shared the company’s commitment to supporting the region through a collaborative approach.

In doing so, it promises not only to draw global attention but also to drive substantial economic benefits for the local communities, reinforcing Lake Toba’s potential as a centerpiece of Indonesian tourism.
