Aftershocks Still Hit Cianjur

It’s been five days since the first earthquake hit Cianjur. It is noted that aftershocks occur almost every day, even with a lower level of earthquakes. The aftershocks occurred again on Friday (25/11) early this morning. This time, the shock was long enough.

Based on the records of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency, the earthquake was recorded at magnitude 4.1 with a depth of 10 kilometers. The point of the earthquake was 8 kilometers southwest of the city of Cianjur.

Previously loaded on the BMKG website, the latest earthquake occurred at 4:48 am WIB, Thursday (24/11/2022). The earthquake is known to have a magnitude of 2.2. The location is about 1 kilometer (km) Northeast of Cianjur Regency.

Previously, the BMKG Twitter report also noted that the aftershock had a magnitude of 3.9 with the epicenter at a depth of 1 kilometer.

However, less than half an hour later on the same day, aftershocks again hit the Cianjur and surrounding areas.

Furthermore, the Head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Center of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Daryono revealed that until this morning there had been 236 aftershocks in Cianjur. None of the aftershocks had a magnitude greater than 4.2 on the Richter scale.

“Aftershocks until November 25 2022 at 06.00 WIB, there were 236 earthquakes with the largest magnitude of 4.2 and the smallest magnitude of 1.2,” tweeted Daryono on his personal Twitter, @DaryonoBMKG, Friday (25/11/2022).

As mentioned by Daryono, monitoring on the BMKG website until 10.15 WIB, the last earthquake in the Cianjur area occurred at 03.51 WIB, Friday (25/11/2022). The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale and was only six kilometers deep.
