Concerns over dengue fever outbreaks have led the Australia to advise its citizens to carefully reconsider their travel plans to Bali. However, Bali’s Provincial Government has been quick to reassure tourists, stating that the island remains safe and welcoming for visitors.
Tjok Bagus Pemayun, Head of the Bali Tourism Office, confidently asserted that Bali is well-prepared to handle health issues, including dengue fever.
“Australia is very strict about protecting its citizens, but Bali is like a second home to them. They know that the provincial government has taken precautionary measures,” Pemayun explained during a conversation with detikBali on Wednesday (December 11, 2024).
Pemayun is optimistic that the advisory will not deter Australian tourists, who have long viewed Bali as a favorite destination. He emphasized that many Australians are familiar with Bali’s safety and infrastructure.
“Tourists from Australia are fully aware that Bali has sufficient healthcare facilities, ranging from clinics to international-standard hospitals,” he said.
The Bali Tourism Office has already coordinated with the Provincial Health Department to stay updated on dengue fever cases and has established communication with the Ministry of Tourism. Pemayun noted, “We’ve been working closely with the Ministry of Tourism. They will provide further explanations as needed.”

Meanwhile, news.com.au reported that Australian authorities are urging caution during the rainy season, which typically sees an increase in dengue cases in tropical areas like Bali. Although most parts of Australia lack mosquitoes capable of spreading the dengue fever virus, infections have been recorded among those returning from overseas trips.
Recent data revealed that Queensland documented 29 cases of dengue fever last month. Similarly, South Australia reported an increase in infections among travelers from Indonesia, while Victoria confirmed 12 imported cases in November 2024.
Despite these figures, Pemayun remains confident that Bali’s appeal as a premier destination will not waver. He reiterated the island’s readiness to ensure visitor safety, highlighting its robust healthcare system and proactive measures.
“Bali continues to maintain its reputation as a safe and enjoyable destination,” Pemayun concluded.
