The concept of wellness living is becoming increasingly popular, especially among urban dwellers looking for a balanced and health-oriented lifestyle. More than just a trend, this concept is now being incorporated into modern residential developments, offering not only comfort but also a holistic approach to well-being. Among the most sought-after destinations for wellness living worldwide, Bali stands out. But what exactly does this concept entail?

As modern life grows more fast-paced, many people are searching for homes that not only provide shelter but also support a healthy way of living. This demand has led to the rise of wellness living properties, designed to enhance both physical and mental well-being. Developers are responding by creating environments that prioritize health, relaxation, and sustainability.

A wellness living home typically features green open spaces, sports facilities, meditation areas, and high-quality ventilation systems. Natural lighting is optimized, and eco-friendly materials are used to create a stress-free environment that enhances overall quality of life. Advanced technology is also integrated, with systems for monitoring air quality, automated temperature control, and efficient water usage.

The wellness real estate sector is seeing rapid growth. Data from the Global Wellness Institute shows the industry expanded from USD 225 billion in 2019 to USD 438 billion in 2023. Projections indicate it will surpass USD 913 billion by 2028, reflecting the increasing demand for health-focused living spaces.

Johanness Weissenbaeck, CEO of Oxo Group Indonesia, highlighted the shift in global priorities. “People are now prioritizing a health-conscious lifestyle and need spaces that support their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. With the growing focus on aging, mental health, and self-care, residential complexes centered on well-being have become a necessity,” he explained.

Oxo Group is currently developing first wellness living residential complex in Bali, set to begin construction in mid-2025. “Bali is no longer just a vacation destination; it has become a lifestyle hub. The trend has shifted from luxury homes to residences that promote health and well-being,” Weissenbaeck said, as quoted by Bisnis on Saturday (1/3/2025).

Bali has long been associated with wellness, drawing visitors seeking balance, tranquility, and holistic well-being. Now, affluent families and entrepreneurs are increasingly choosing Bali for a more meaningful and balanced way of life.

Weissenbaeck noted that the post-pandemic era has brought a shift in perception. Initially, Bali was viewed mainly as a tourist hotspot, but now, more people are considering semi-permanent living and working arrangements on the island. This shift has fueled a work-life balance trend in Bali. Data from the Ministry of Tourism indicates that wellness tourism in Bali grew nearly 30% in 2023.

Oxo Group’s upcoming development aims to redefine the concept of home by integrating wellness into everyday living. “This is not just about having a spa or sauna at home. It’s about ensuring that the home itself fosters both physical and mental well-being. From providing a peaceful environment for quality sleep to creating private spaces and community areas, the goal is to offer residents a place where they can truly thrive,” he concluded.
